Everything is in bloom and the weather is for the most part beautiful and the occasional shower helps to keep things green a bit longer. As usual, there is no shortage of things to do and see here in this Merry Month of May. Come up and enjoy Spring in our beautiful foothills.

Kodo Arts Japanese Antiques’ annual art show and sale is from May 5-13 in their warehouse in Nevada City. Twice a year, in Spring and Fall, Kodo Arts opens its warehouse to the public. Inside, you will find Japanese décor, furniture, textiles, art, kimonos, and much more! 24 Hour Plays at Miners Foundry May 8. Tickets are $15.00 and are available online, by phone (530) 265-5040, or in person at the Miners Foundry, or in person at Briar Patch Co-Op.  On Wednesday, May 8, find out what happens when a group of talented Nevada County actors, writers, directors, and producers are given just 24 hours to create, rehearse, and tech six short original plays, culminating in an off-book performance to a live theatre audience.

The Complete History of America May 3 – May 26. LeGacy Presents is proud and thrilled to bring yet another hilarious comedy by the Reduced Shakespeare Company to the Off Center Stage this May. Following the hugely successful and popular The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, presented by LeGacy last fall, Scott Ewing once again directs this three actor fast, fun, and rollicking comedy – 600 years in 6000 seconds!!

The 20th Annual Spring Garden Tour, hosted by Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills (SISF), scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19. This event is a self-guided tour of six privately-owned gardens in Grass Valley, Nevada City and Penn Valley.  Gardens are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the garden gate. Tickets go on sale in early March.  Wear comfortable shoes, bring a hat, and don’t forget your camera on this four-to-five hour excursion.

Dont miss the  26th Annual Miners Foundry Mother’s Day Plant Sale.  The Mother’s Day Plant & Garden Sale features over a dozen growers of Organic Vegetables and Herb Seedlings grown locally to give your garden a head start on the growing season.

In its 28th year, the Teddy Bear Convention in idyllic Nevada City will celebrate the enduring charms and trace the birth of the teddy bear, more than a century ago, to its permanent place in the contemporary scene as the ubiquitous plaything and highly prized collectible.
