Everything is in bloom and the weather is for the most part beautiful and the occasional shower helps to keep things green a bit longer. As usual, there is no shortage of things to do and see here in this Merry Month of May. Come up and enjoy Spring in our beautiful foothills.

Kodo Arts Japanese Antiques’ annual art show and sale is from May 5-13 in their warehouse in Nevada City. Twice a year, in Spring and Fall, Kodo Arts opens its warehouse to the public. Inside, you will find Japanese décor, furniture, textiles, art, kimonos, and much more! The 20th Annual Spring Garden Tour, hosted by Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills (SISF), scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19. This event is a self-guided tour of six privately-owned gardens in Grass Valley, Nevada City and Penn Valley.  Gardens are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the garden gate. Tickets go on sale in early March.  Wear comfortable shoes, bring a hat, and don’t forget your camera on this four-to-five hour excursion.

In its 28th year, the Teddy Bear Convention in idyllic Nevada City will celebrate the enduring charms and trace the birth of the teddy bear, more than a century ago, to its permanent place in the contemporary scene as the ubiquitous plaything and highly prized collectible. May 10, 11 and 12. Thursday, May 10 at Trolley Junction. Friday, May 11 – 12noon to 5PM and Saturday, May 12 – 10AM to 4PM at Nevada City Elks Lodge, 518 Highway 49, Nevada City.
