Events in June 2013

Summer is here! Take a picnic lunch down to the Yuba to cool off or stay in town, taste some wine and have a lovely meal at one of our great restaurants. There is always so much to see and do here in Nevada City!

June 7, June 7, July 5, August 2, 5-9 pm – First Friday Art Walk – The Artwalk is a celebration of Nevada City’s diverse mix of galleries, artisan boutiques, retail shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, as well as our wonderfully artistic and creative community. Participating Downtown businesses will stay open until 9pm every First Friday monthly and many will host “receptions” with local artists, trunk shows, and/or performances. Many shops are also offering snacks and beverages as well as sales and specials only valid for the event.

June 8 – Nevada City Foreign Car Show –  The Sierra Sports Car Group, United Way of Nevada County and The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce the 3rd Annual Nevada City Foreign Car Show. June 13-16 –  Bluegrass Festival –  The 38th Annual Father’s Day Festival is right around the corner with another spectacular lineup of national headliners, impressive California talent, workshops, camping, jamming and more, all under the pines at the scenic Nevada County Fairgrounds. June 16 –  Nevada City Bicycle Classic – One of America’s top cycling events celebrates its 53rd anniversary this year and many of the nation’s top cyclists are expected to be on hand.  The Annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic will be held on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, 2013, in historic downtown Nevada City. The Nevada City Classic is one of the premiere sporting events in the Sierra foothills, the largest and oldest bike race on the West Coast, and the second-oldest race in the natioJune 22 – Soap Box Derby –  Teams will race nearly 1/2 mile downhill (powered only by gravity) on Nimrod Street in Nevada City, while being judged for creativity, speed and team spirit! Proceeds benefit Pioneer Park. The race starts at Noon.

June 29 –   Saturday – 7:30 pm / Gates open at 6:00 pm – Music in the Mountains presents The Music of Queen On the lawn at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Bring your own seating.  Calling this performance a tour de force is a huge understatement. Because when Michael Shotton gets through channeling Freddie Mercury – backed up by his killer seven piece band, the sublime MIM Festival Orchestra and the amazing MIM Chorus – you’ll be exhausted and begging for more. With this kind of musical horsepower, we’re absolutely going to rock you!
